SWADISHT KHICHDI
INGREDIENTS
Rice : 1 cup
Moong dal : 1 cup
Cauliflower : 1 piece (small size)
Green peas : 250 gram
Carrot : 1 piece
Green chilly : 4-5 pieces
Salt : 1/2 tsp (as per taste)
Cumin seeds : 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Bay leaf : 4-5 pieces
Tomato : 2-3 pieces
Ginger : 1/2 tsp
Ghee : 1 tsp
PREPARATION
• Wash rice and moong dal properly and pour it in a saucepan
• Pour 5-6 cups of water and mix it well
• Stir it for 10-15 minutes
• Cut the carrot and cauliflower into small pieces
• Pour cauliflower, carrot, ginger and green chilly in saucepan
• Add salt, turmeric powder, green peas and tomato
• Stir it well for 10-15 minutes till the vegetable gets boiled and the water gets dried
• Heat 1 tsp of ghee in a pan
• Pour cumin seeds and bay leaf and wait for few seconds till it sizzle
• Scatter the cumin seeds on khichdi prepared in saucepan
• Serve it hot with pickle/papad

Wow..swadisht khichdi looks really swadisht!!! very colourful and delicious..wholesome meal..I make it in a pressure cooker...bit lazy..;-))

ReplyDeletemy sis-in-low always cook in khicdi at home...but i heard only abt this recipe...never tried..now i got the recipe bcz of u...its rich n colorful babbli...so nice presentation..i thought it might be a sweet dish...now i got it...thanks for sharing this dear...

ReplyDeleteI think I will try this in my stupid kitchen in Milano..I tried , Masur dal onion khichdi and lot of ghee...
It is very close to a bong Khichdi...where a roasted Mung dal is also used with garam masla jeera seasoning...what is your bong connection ?

ReplyDeleteLOL, after getting your note on my blog, suddenly I saw your name on the post..I sd have seen it long before..I always thought you were from north and once in a while when I saw bengali recipe I used to think you must have learnt from othe bongs, when I saw the khichudi, a typical kacha mung dal one, I was guessing you must have been close to bong community, thats why that Bong connection question...
