SAMBAR




























































































INGREDIENTS

Toor dal : 2 cups
Drumstick : 250 grams
Brinjal : 250 gram
Carrot : 2 pieces
Tamarind paste : 1/4 tsp
Onion : 1 piece (big size – finely chopped)
Mustard : 2 tsp
Curry leaves : 1/2 bowl (small size)
Green chilly : 4-5 pieces
Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Salt : 1/2 tsp (as per taste)
Sambar powder : 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida powder : 1/4 tsp
Red chilly : 3-4 pieces


PREPARATION

• Cut drumstick, brinjal and carrot into small pieces
• Cook the dal with turmeric and salt in pressure cooker and add carrot with it
• Pour the dal in a kadai and stir it well
• Add Brinjal and drumstick and stir it for 10-15 minutes
• Add tamarind paste and sambar powder and mix it properly
• Heat 2-3 tsp oil in a pan
• Add mustard, red chilly, green chilly, asafoetida powder and curry leaves
• Stir it for 3-4 minutes
• Season the sambar with the above prepared tadka
• Serve it hot with plain rice

  1. sambar looks delicious...we south indians make many variations of sambar.For each vegetable there is one sambar...like we put only brinjal it becomes brinjal sambar...sometimes lady finger sambar,radish sambar is my favorite ...in all sambars onion and tomato is kept constant...i love your version...looks very colorful n inviting

  5. I like that you have used baingan in your sambar..I also do it! Baingan tastes sooo juice! Just need some hot idlis to dunk nw!
