SPICY GHUGNI (IN BENGALI) - WHITE PEAS








































































INGREDIENTS

White peas : 2 cups
Onion : 2 pieces (medium size – finely chopped)
Garlic : 1 tsp (crushed)
Ginger : 1 tsp (grated)
Tomato : 1 piece (big size – finely chopped)
Salt : 1/2 tsp (as per taste)
Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
Coriander powder : 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder : 1/2 tsp
Chilly powder : 1/2 tsp
Garam masala : 1/4 tsp


PREPARATION

• Soak white peas in water for 5-6 hours
• Boil the peas in pressure cooker and wait for 3-4 whistle till it becomes soft
• Chop onions and tomato and keep aside
• Heat 6-8 tsp of oil in a kadai
• Pour chopped onions, ginger and garlic
• Stir it for 15-20 minutes
• Add tomatoes and mix it well
• Stir it again for 5-10 minutes
• Pour white peas and mix it properly
• Add cumin powder, coriander powder, salt and turmeric powder
• Mix it well and stir it for 5-10 minutes
• Cover the kadai for 10-15 minutes
• Scatter garam masala
• Serve it hot with chapati/paratha
